The remains of the Temple of the Winged Lions are located in the center of the Rock city of Petra
The temple is located opposite the so-called Great temple. In 363 AD, like many of the city's buildings, it was destroyed in a strong earthquake. It was named after depictions of winged lions that adorned the corner pillars and were found during excavations. An eye stele with the inscription "Goddess of Hayyan, son of Naybat" was also recovered from the temple ruins. This is considered proof that the Temple of the Winged Lions was dedicated to al-Uzza (Goddess Aphrodite). This Nabatean deity was associated with the Roman goddess Aphrodite. This path leads to the Temple of the Winged Lions as well as the churches of Petra.
