Wadi Farasa East, is a hidden side valley of the Rock city of Petra in Jordan

The hidden valley of Wadi Farasa East is also known as the Garden Valley. It offers interesting facades, off the beaten tourist track, as well as beautiful viewpoints.
The so-called garden triclinium, the Roman soldier's grave, the colorful triclinium and the renaissance grave are its most famous sights.

The garden triclinium was probably built at the end of the 1st century AD and has a pretty entrance decorated with columns. Its actual use is unknown. A use as a temple, as a tomb or as a triclinium for celebrations was discussed and rejected again. Instead, it may have been part of the Nabataean water system or a dwelling for the cistern keepers. This thesis is supported by the fact that the stone wall, next to the garden triclinium, belonged to one of the largest water reservoirs in Petra.

Roman soldier's grave

The façade of the Roman Soldier's Tomb is part of a tomb complex with a colonnaded courtyard and triclinium for celebrations. It is named after the statue of a soldier in the central niche. Archaeological findings have shown that it was built in the 1st century AD, before Petra fell into Roman Empire was incorporated. It is not a Roman soldier's grave, as originally assumed, but belonged to a Nabatean soldier. The opposite triclinium is particularly splendidly designed on the inside.

Renaissance tomb

The so-called Renaissance grave is also located in Wadi Farasa East. Its decorative elements are reminiscent of the European architecture of the Renaissance period, which is why the tomb facade was given this name. In the area where the valley on the Umm al Biyara Trail there are also numerous caves, some of which are still inhabited today.
